WHAT IS ECU?
An engine control unit (ECU), also commonly called an engine control module (ECM), is a type of electronic control unit that controls a series of actuators on an internal combustion engine to ensure optimal engine performance…. The fuel injection system has the major role to control the engine’s fuel supply.
WHAT CAUSES ECU FAILURE?
Corrosion or damage due to moisture is one of the main reasons for ECU failure. Corrosion can enter the ECU through the wiring harness and moisture can enter by a failure in the seals in the ECU itself. This happens over a period of time (5 to 10 years) due to the ECU’s exposure to the elements.
